Topsiders - Launch!

For a day that I can only describe as both insanely perfect and incredibly fast, last Saturday's launch of Topsiders was immensely successful. Not only did we have a great turnout, but we sold a whole stack of books. I couldn't have asked for more.

And the fact that the Legume-team were in attendance only served to sweeten the deal. Their support helped calm the nerves of a certain writer at his first ever book signing.

A big thanks to everyone that attended, and to all those that purchased the book.

To others in Australia or overseas, you can purchase Topsiders here:

LegumeMan - Bathurst Journey

As I type this, the crew behind LegumeMan Books are heading to Bathurst for the launch of Topsiders, my debut novel. At around ten hours one way, it is a mammoth commitment, but something that is a testament to their spirit and support for this relatively unknown writer. Not only that, it speaks volumes for their loyalty toward Australian writers, especially ones under their wing.

To celebrate this occasion, they have been sharing photos from their trip on Facebook.

Behold...

Again, I would love to see you at Books Plus, Bathurst tomorrow at 10:30 for the launch.

For everyone else, you can purchase the book here:

Topsiders - First Proof Arrives From The Printers

Topsiders - First Proof

I've just been informed that the first physical (proof) copy of Topsiders has arrived at Legumeman HQ!

As you can see from the photos, it is pure magnificence. From the spectacular chapter headings to the unique spine, all designed and brought to life by the wonderful team at Legumeman Books.

The anticipation of holding it in my own two hands is almost too much to bear.

For those that have been waiting, we are almost there.

Not long, people.
Not long.

Halloween 2013 - Australia

Following on from Greg Chapman's lead (http://darkscrybe.com/2013/11/01/have-a-helluva-halloween/), I thought I would post some images from the Halloween gathering at our home. While Halloween isn't something that is widely supported here in Aus, we (in our family, anyway) love the excuse to dress up and throw a party. My daughter looks forward to Halloween more than she does Christmas. I couldn't be a prouder dad.

Anyway, on with the pictures!

By the way, the first round of edits have been completed on Topsiders, and hopefully a release date shouldn't be far away.

I'll keep you posted ;)

Topsiders Cover Art

It is with incredible joy that I can now share with you all the amazing cover art for my book, Topsiders.

Matthew Revert, the man behind the design, has captured the tone of the book perfectly. I couldn't be happier. As this is my writing debut to the world, I was extremely nervous. But one look at Matthew's design assuaged all my fears.

Things are ramping up as the release date draws ever closer. For me, having my story come to life in graphic form is an enlightening experience. This is just a taste of what lies beyond the cover.

Exciting times ahead.

With an impending deadline fast approaching, I enlisted the services of Phoenix Editing & Proofreading to give my eighty-thousand-word novel a thorough going over. With less than a month up my sleeve, they accepted the challenge.

Not only was the end result prompt and detailed, Phoenix Editing were in contact every step of the way. Whether it was a simple query regarding the intended audience (Australian or American spelling/dialect), or a question about the characters or plot, they were there with an email or a message, lending a hand with words of encouragement and kindly suggesting changes and suitable alternatives.

I knew that my story was in good hands. With edits in play, my manuscript had greater impact and flow, with superfluous words eliminated.

I highly recommend Phoenix Editing & Proofreading to anyone
wanting to improve their writing before submission.

Should Have Killed The Kid - by R. Frederick Hamilton

Review

Should Have Killed The Kid

Who wouldn't want to read a book with that title?

This was my second exposure to R. Frederick Hamilton's writing, the first being Spare Key. Both completely different books, but I enjoyed both.

Almost like a surreal, Aussie version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Should Have Killed The Kid deals with hopelessness, despair, right and wrong, magic, and blood. Lots and lots of blood. Don't Panic? No, you better panic. 'Cause if you don't, there's probably no salvation in sight.

I look forward to further books (hopefully) in the series, and indeed from Hamilton. Recommended reading for lovers of horror, with a definite Sci-Fi slant, something right up my alley.
